The Daruma

The traditional Daruma doll (達磨 daruma), also known as a Dharma doll, is a painted ceramic Japanese doll modeled after Bodhidharma, the founder of the Zen sect of Buddhism. It brings good fortune, continued prosperity, and fortitude to accomplish goals.
We decided to create a modern version of this tradition, with materials and methods that are reflective of India’s fortitude in reclaiming its national identity after years of occupation and colonization. From the weaving and printing of the Khadi fabric to the intricate stitching details, our wise Owl Darumas are lovingly hand-crafted to inspire you on your personal journey and keep a watchful eye on your goals.

HOW TO USE

The women who make our Darumas set their own wages and work hours. All proceeds from sales go to benefit Ready Together Sustainability and Youth Sports Development through a registered non profit, 501 C (3).

What is #darumaproject
Kate Shaper, RN

Do you have your eye on a particular mission, path, or goal?

Deciding to set and pursue a goal is one of the most wonderful and terrifying things that we do. Whether it’s graduating from school, finishing a project, or changing the way we eat or live, goals give us a sense of purpose and excitement. Yet there will always be challenges to overcome along the way. Your Daruma is there to remind you of the end result you’re after, the process still ahead, and the loved ones who support you on your path.

The goal that you set your sights on belongs completely to you! You have chosen it, and it is yours alone to complete! But we all know that we are more motivated when our goal is connected to others. By using a Daruma you link yourself to a growing community of dreamers and visionaries like yourself.
A February 2016 research study analyzed conversations from an online community of over 1400 members who were working together to improve their health. They found that this member-generated communication promoted significant behavioral changes that cognitive scientists and psychologists have been working to understand for years.

Another recent study looked at a group of surgeons who were taking a course in Laproscopic Surgery and needed motivation to practice. They used an online networking and collaboration tool and found that the surgeons who were involved in the online support community were much more likely to practice events and training time than those who weren’t.

We hope that you will enjoy similar benefits as you connect to our Daruma online community. Reach out and share your goal! Make friends, support others, offer and receive advice. Not only will you have more fun, but according to the research you’ll get better results!
